Chapter 27: Face-To-Face |
|
After a memorable night together, the next morning, both laid asleep together in bed underneath the soft white sheets. Park Jungsu had his hand over Sora’s as he sheltered her with his body from behind. Although her eyes were still close, she could feel the warmness of his body over her bare back – a sensation she wished to wake up to every morning.
As the sunlight beamed into the bedroom, it had woken Sora, as her eyes felt the brightness gleaming through her closed eyelids. She squinted as she opened her eyes, allowing a few seconds for them to adjust to the bright light. Remaining half awake as she laid in bed, she could feel and hear his breathing over the nape of her neck. She could feel her cheeks burning as she closed her eyes again. Although she felt shy, it did not stop her from feeling content as she smile timidly to her own self. In order to hide her shyness, she hid her face into the soft white pillow.
When she did so, Park Jungsu slightly twitched reacting to her motion. Her eyes widened as she instantly remained still, trying not to make any more movement than she already had. Her heart was racing for some unknown reason and she didn’t want to wake him up, especially when they had just spent the most intimate night together – a night she won’t be able to forget when he made love to her.
Just when she let out a sigh of relief, he removed his hand from hers and slid his body beside her with his arm draped over her waist and his head on her back shoulder as he fell back asleep.
After waiting a few seconds, she slowly turned herself around to face him. She looked at him with happiness as she slowly traced her finger over his eyebrows and nose. Just when she continued onto his lips, she recalled how he had kissed her ever so passionately last night. Wanting to kiss him again, she slowly leaned forward and gently laid a soft peck on his lips, being careful not to wake him up.
Park Jungsu was sleeping soundly as he was tired from not only their intimate night together, but because he hasn’t slept the night before, right after Sora ran away.
“How adorable can he look whenever he’s asleep?” she thought to herself. She has always loved the way he looked when he sleeps. While admiring him in bed, she suddenly heard a vibrating sound coming from her clutch on the floor.
She slowly tried to remove his arm from her waist so that she could fetch her mobile, but Park Jungsu unexpectedly tightened his arm around her. He pulled her closed to him until they were practically face-to-face with her chest against his as she stared at him while his eyes remained shut.
“Where do you think you’re going?” he asked in a hoarse voice.
Stunned by his awakening, she said, “Omo, I thought you were still asleep.”
“I was until someone kept moving,” he replied and slowly opened his eyes. He gazed at her for a second before leaning forward to kiss her. From one kiss to another few, the short kisses then turned to a deep one as Sora reciprocated to his kisses and their kiss gradually began to intensify like how they had kissed last night.
“Oppa, I need to get my clutch on the floor,” she said in between their kisses while her phone continueds to vibrate.
He ignored her and began to caress the side of her neck with his lips. As he kissed her, she tilted her head to give him more access and ran her hands in his hair. She was doing the opposite of what she was supposed to do, which was to stop him but failed as she couldn’t resist to his touch.
“Oppa…, I need… my clutch,” she moaned while accepting his caress on her skin.
His hand ran over her bare back, at the same time pulling her closer – pressing her soft chest on his firm one. As he moved his kiss from her neck back to her lips, he asked in between his caresses, “Waeyo?”
“I think someone is calling me.”
“So…Just ignore it…”
“Just hold on, oppa. It’ll be quick,” she insisted as she pulled herself away.
Park Jungsu sighed and plumped his head onto his pillow. He rubbed his face with his hand while watching Sora covered her own self with the white bed-sheet and crawled onto the end of the bed to reach for her clutch.
The mere sight of her covering herself made him smiled mischievously and chuckling silently. It was not like he hasn’t seen her fully exposed before, especially after making love to her last night – he thought to himself.
When she got her clutch on the floor, she turned around and found Park Jungsu lying naked on the bed. Her face instantly turned beat red as quickly looked away.
He snorted with a smirk from her reaction. “What’s wrong, Sora-ah? It’s not like you haven’t seen me like this. You didn’t seem to mind last night when you…”
Before he could complete his sentence, Sora cut him off. “Yah! Last night was…was different…” she said shyly. She glanced at him for a quick second and swiftly turned around again.
“Different…? Waeyo?”
By the time she took out her mobile from her clutch, it had stopped vibrating. “Yah! Look what you did! You made me miss the call!” she complained as she went through her missed calls. “Omo! I have ten missed calls! And they’re all from Melissa too,” she said to herself aloud as she frowned.
He moved forward towards her and held her by her side-arms from behind. He gave short kisses on her shoulders while saying, “Then, you call her back.”
“That’s what I’m doing now,” she told him as she called Melissa. “And try to stay quiet, arasso?”
“Don’t worry about me. You should say that to yourself though,” he said with a cheeky smile as he continued to caress her neck and shoulders.
“What do you mean by-” before she could clarify what he meant, her call connected to Melissa.
“Sora! Where the hell are you? I’ve been trying to reach you all last night! Are you okay? You said you’d be back at my place last night at the event!” Melissa said worriedly.
“Mianhe, Melissa. I’m okay, don’t worry. Something unexpected happened yesterday and that’s why I didn’t get a chance to call you.”
“You should tell her you’re with me right now,” he whispered in her other ear as he ran his hand on other parts of her body.
Without warning, she elbowed him in the ribs. Park Jungsu shrieked out in pain and she quickly placed her hand over his mouth.
“Sora, what was that sound just now?” Melissa asked.
“Aniya, it’s nothing.” She turned to face Park Jungsu and shushed him.
He brushed her hand away from his mouth and said, “Yah! That hurt!”
Sora’s eye quickly widened when Melissa noticed the sound. “Sora, wasn’t that President Park’s voice just now?”
With Melissa’s remark, she didn’t know how to respond as she uttered, “Umm…well…”
Realizing the situation, Melissa gasped in surprise and said excitedly, “Oh my God! You’re at President Park’s place right now, aren’t you? Oh my God! Did you two made up already? Omo, you two…last night…did you two…you know…that?”
Her heart began to race as Melissa figured out what happened. “Melissa, I need to go now. I’ll call you again later. Okay?”
Melissa understandably replied with laughter in her voice, “Arasso! Enjoy your time together! Talk to you later!”
As soon as they ended the call, Sora turned around, giving Park Jungsu a bold stare as he looked at her.
“What? Why are you staring at me like that?” he asked ignorantly.
Her bold stare gradually turned into a helpless sigh. “Yah…Didn’t I tell you to stay quiet? Now Melissa knows I was with you last night,” she whined while turning her back on him as she pulled her knees up and embraced them.
Seeing her like that, Park Jungsu went next to her and asked, “Are you angry?” He nudged her with his arm.
Sora looked at him with a worried look and replied, “Aniya, it’s just that…” She hesitated.
“It’s just that what, Sora-ah?” He placed his arms around her by the shoulder.
“I think we should stay low for now, in terms of our relationship.”
“Stay low? Waeyo? You don’t want others to know?”
“I’m not worried about others knowing, but rather my father knowing.”
“What’s wrong with your father knowing about our relationship?”
Sora sighed as she explained, “If my father knows, he’ll probably oppose our relationship.”
“He probably has a bit of an idea about that already. No wonder he came to warn me,” Park Jungsu murmured to himself as he recalled the time when Victor came to warn him.
“What did you just say?” Sora asked, looking at Park Jungsu.
“Aniya, it’s nothing. I was thinking of something else.”
“Yah! How can you be thinking of something else when we’re discussing about something serious?” she asked as she grabbed a pillow and started attacking him with it.
He blocked her attack with his arm as he pleaded with giggles, “Yah! Sora-ah…stop! Stop it!”
She stopped her pillow bashing as she looked at him.
“I am being serious, can’t you see it on my face?” he said, trying to put on a stern face but failed in the end as he couldn’t hold in his laughter. Watching him acting silly made her join him as their laughter filled the bedroom.
Taking a few minutes to settle down, she laid her head on his shoulder as he wrapped his arms around her while both enjoyed being in each other’s presence. “Sora-ah…”
She looked at him, “Ne?”
“Don’t wear that kind of dress to any public event ever again,” he said.
Pretending to be oblivious when she clearly knew why he was saying this, she asked, “Waeyo? I think that type of dress fits me well, don’t you think so?”
Looking at her with his gloomy face, he answered, “It does fit you well, but I don’t like it. Not when it attracts all those men’s attention, especially that Minho guy! How dare he lay his hand on your back?”
“So you did see?”
“Of course, I did and I was fuming inside when he did. You should tell him that you have a boyfriend already and that person is me,” Park Jungsu complained.
Sora on the other hand, couldn’t hold in her laughter when she saw the cute jealousy on his face. “Well, I guess I’ll have to cover myself up wherever I go then,” she remarked, pretending to be disappointed as she put on a pouting face.
“Aniya, that’s not what I mean. You can wear those dresses, but for my eyes only.” He gave her a wolfish smile.
She gave him a sarcastic smile and then looked at him sternly, “In your dreams, Park Jungsu!”
“Waeyo? Yah! Where are you going?” he asked as Sora covered herself with the white bed-sheet and headed towards the bathroom.
“What do you think, Park Jungsu-ssi? I’m getting ready for work,” she said, walking with her bare back facing him.
He gulped from the mere sight of her and took him a few seconds to react. “Can’t you take the day off today?”
She didn’t answer him and all he could hear was the running water from the shower.
…
Coming out from the shower, Sora saw Park Jungsu already dressed in his sweatpants, covering himself up, but remained topless. As much as she tried to resist, her eyes just naturally wondered onto his toned body – unable to move away from it.
“Are you done staring at my body? You should look at my face and not my body, you know?” he remarked as he pointed at his own face.
Reacting to his comment, she quickly denied, “Aniya! I was just…just…”
“Just what?” he asked with a smirk as he walked towards her while she stepped back.
“I was just…thinking about something else.”
Park Jungsu nodded his head, “Is that so? And what is it that you are thinking of that you needed to stare at my body? There’s no way it could be work related, now could it?”
He was finally standing right in front of her while she backed up against the wall. Placing his two hands on the wall, he trapped her between his arms and looked at her in the most seductive way. The look in his eyes sent her heart racing.
“The way you moaned last night was like music to my ears,” he teased her.
Before she can say anything, he gave her a deep drugging kiss and then said, “Give me ten to fifteen minutes to freshen up and I’ll drive you to work.”
Sora’s faced flushed as her heart continued to beat helplessly. She didn’t know why, but the way he acts so cheekily was something she found somewhat attractive.
***
During their drive to Sora’s work, she received a phone call from her mother. “Ne, eomma.”
“Sora-ah, how have you been? I haven’t seen you for a long while. Do you have time for lunch with me today?” Mrs. Kang asked.
“Sure, where do you want to have lunch?”
“Anyeong, eomoni!” Park Jungsu called out loud, enough for Sora’s mother to hear over the phone.
“Omo! Are you with Jungsu-ssi?” Mrs. Kang asked in the most joyful way.
“Ne, eomma. He’s driving me to work, right now,” answered Sora as she looked at him, to which he returned a smile.
“Put your phone on speaker, I want to talk to Jungsu-ssi.”
“Eomma! Waeyo?” she whined and turned her phone on speaker.
“Jungsu-ssi, how are you?” Mrs. Kang asked.
“I’m good, eomoni. How are you? Please take good care of yourself.”
“Oh, I will thank you. Has our Sora been misbehaving? If she is, then you let me know, arasso?” Mrs. Kang was clearly in favour of Park Jungsu, even over her daughter.
“Eomma! Wae? Why are you just taking his side only? I’m your daughter, you know?” Sora protested.
Park Jungsu on the other hand, was laughing as he saw Sora’s jealous face. “Don’t worry eomoni. Even if Sora did misbehave, I’ll still love her,” he said out loud, confessing his love for her in front of her mother as he held onto Sora’s hand.
His words made Mrs. Kang very happy and touched. “Omo…gomawo Jungsu-ssi. Our Sora is very lucky to have found you.”
“Aniya…I am the lucky one to have found Sora-ah, eomoni.”
This time, his words made Sora’s heart filled with content as she smiled happily to his words.
“Arasso, Jungsu-ssi. Would you like to join us for lunch this afternoon?” invited Mrs. Kang.
Park Jungsu kindly declined, “Mianhe eomoni, I actually have meetings to attend to this afternoon. Perhaps next time and I’ll promise to take you to a very good place with delicious food.”
“That is very thoughtful of you, Jungsu-ssi. Perhaps some other time then,” Mrs. Kang said, accepting his promise.
When Sora ended the call with her mother, she gave him a suspicious look. He noticed she was looking at him when he took a few glances at her. “What? Why are you always giving these looks?” he asked.
“Whaa…I really underestimated you, Park Jungsu. You really have a way with my mother with those sweet talks of yours,” said Sora.
He laughed to her remark, “That’s why you shouldn’t underestimate me. Besides, I wasn’t sweet talking. I meant every word that I said to her just now, especially when I when I told her that ‘I love you’.”
Sora tried to hold in her smile but happiness was written all over her face as she looked out the window.
***
Finally arriving at her office building, they both sat in the car as Park Jungsu held onto her hand firmly.
With a smile on her face, Sora asked, “Oppa, how long are you going to hold on to my hand for?”
“For as long as I can. Call me when you get off work, arasso?”
“Arasso! Now, would you let me get to work?”
He let go of her hand and she bid him goodbye with a kiss on his cheek before she got out of the car. After watching her get into her office building, he was ready to drive off. However, before he could do so, Victor stood in front of his car.
Park Jungsu opened his door and stepped out. He let out a sigh and asked, “Is there a problem?”
“It seems like you have a hard time understanding what I said last time, President Park,” said Victor.
Park Jungsu smirked and said, “So what if I am? What are you going to do about it?”
Victor looked away in disbelieve and took a deep breath. He turned back to Park Jungsu and said, “Chairman Kang would like to have a word with you.”
A discomfort look appeared on Park Jungsu’s face and said, “Chairman Kang would like to see me?”
“Yes. Please come with me,” confirmed Victor, “Oh, and you won’t need your car for now. So you can park it aside.”
Victor directed Park Jungsu to park his Aston Martin at the visitor’s parking and signaled him to get into the car Victor himself was driving. Then the both of them drove off.
“Exactly where are you taking me? Why does the Chairman wants to meet somewhere this far?” Park Jungsu asked.
Victor snorted with a slight smirk and said, “Waeyo? Are you afraid I might do something to you, President Park?”
Park Jungsu chuckled in disbelieve. “Do I look scared? I’m asking because I still have meetings to attend to this afternoon.”
“Don’t worry, President Park. The Chairman isn’t someone who hits around the bushes. We’re here,” said Victor as he turned off his engine.
They have arrived at the Seoul Marina Club & Yacht located in Yeouido-dong, Seoul. Both walked down the dock until they arrived at a yacht that was named after Sora.
Victor ushered Park Jungsu to step on board the yacht. He looked around, impressed by the décor of the yacht. As he headed up to the upper deck of the yacht, he saw the back of a tall man with broad shoulders in a white polo shirt at the front end of the yacht and a deep voice spoke out.
“Welcome Park Jungsu-ssi,” Chairman Kang turned around and walked towards him.
Park Jungsu greeted Chairman Kang with a respective bow. When he saw Chairman Kang for the first time, face-to-face, he was a bit amazed of how similar the chairman and Sora looked alike, just like father and daughter. He offered out his hand for a handshake and said, “It’s a pleasure to meet you, sir.”
Chairman Kang smiled as he shook Park Jungsu’s hand and remarked, “We finally have the chance to meet, President Park. Please have a seat. Wine?”
“No, thank you. I still have meetings to attend to later on, so I think it’s best if I don’t,” Park Jungsu explained, kindly declining the offer as both took a seat.
Chairman Kang chuckled, “Very well then.” The chairman then turned to Victor and said, “Victor, could you leave us both for a while.”
Victor nodded and made his way back down to the lower deck, leaving the two alone.
Looking around and enjoying the oceanic view, Chairman Kang asked as he turned and looked at Park Jungsu, “Mr. Park, do you know why I ask you to come here to meet me today?”
Park Jungsu remained silent as he looked at Sora’s father. He kind of has an idea why Chairman Kang wanted to see him, but didn’t say a word.
“I’ll be frank with you, Mr. Park. From what I understand, you and my daughter have a rather unusual relationship. Unusual to the state where you both aren’t just normal acquaintances, am I correct?” Chairman Kang asked.
Park Jungsu continued to remain silent, waiting for what the chairman has to say next.
“With your silence, I believe you admit to what I have just said. Given that, if you both have started not too long ago, I believe it’s best if you leave my daughter alone and end whatever relationship you both have right now..”
“I don’t think I can do that, sir,” Park Jungsu finally replied after remaining silent for a while. “I don’t see a reason why I can’t be with your daughter when I believe I have all the qualities that most women seek.”
Chairman Kang chuckled to Park Jungsu's arrogant statement. “Then it wouldn’t be a problem if you end your relationship with Sora. If you have all the qualities that women are looking for, then you can easily find another girl.”
The chairman’s face turned serious as he looked at Park Jungsu, who was having trouble understanding what Chairman Kang meant.
“I don’t quite understand what you mean by that, sir.”
Chairman Kang laid an envelope on the table and pushed it towards Park Jungsu. “Perhaps this will explain why I have my concerns.”
Park Jungsu’s face turned concerned after he opened the envelope to see what was inside.
***
(On the phone...)
SORA: EOMMA, WHERE ARE YOU SEATED?
MRS. KANG: I’M SEATED BY THE WINDOW.
SORA: OH, I SEE YOU.
Sora walked towards the table by the window where her mother was seated. As she settled down, her mother noticed that she looked somewhat different than usual and was happy to see this change as she smiled happily at her daughter.
Noticing the happiness on her mother’s face, she couldn’t help but to wonder why. “Eomma, is there something on my face? Why are you looking at me like that?” she asked.
“Seems like someone is happily in love, am I correct?” Mrs. Kang sighed contently as she grabbed hold of her daughter’s hand. “I haven’t seen the glow on your face like this for a very long time.”
Sora touched her own face with her hand to her mother’s remarks. “Glow on my face?” she thought to herself. “What do you mean by that, eomma?”
Her mother laughed and said, “When someone is in love, others can see a glowing aura from a person who is in love and just like you, Sora-ah.”
“Is it that obvious?” Sora asked as she began to blush.
“So when will I expect you and Jungsu to get married?” her mother bluntly asked.
Sora almost choked on her coffee when she heard her mother’s question. “Eomma! What do you mean ‘get married’? We only just started not too long ago!”
“Waeyo, Sora-ah? It didn’t take you both that long to sleep together already.”
Sora was shocked by her mother’s statement that she slightly dropped her cup on the plate with a clatter. For a moment, almost everyone at the restaurant looked her way.
Her face immediately flushed with embarrassment. “Eomma!” she grumbled as she tried to cover her face with her hand. “How can you say this out loud? This is so embarrassing!” Sora taking sneaky glances around the restaurant.
“Oh come on, Sora-ah! Don’t act like you two didn’t sleep together already. Eomma has been through that stage before when I was your age. So there’s nothing to be ashamed of. I’m a very open-minded mother, you know?”
“Yes, a little too open may I say,” Sora remarked as began to settle back down.
Her mother took a sip of her tea before she continued. “So how was Jungsu in bed, yesterday?”
Sora was taken aback from her mother’s embarrassing questions that this time she really choked on her coffee.
“Omo! Sora-ah, are you okay?” her mother asked as she handed napkins to her daughter.
After coughing and calming down from her choking, Sora cried out, “Yah! Eomma! How can you ask me questions like these? This is a very personal question and what makes you think I slept with him?”
“Eh…Sora-ah, do you honestly think eomma doesn’t know? If you two didn’t sleep together last night, then why would you two be together so early in the morning? Besides, Melissa told me everything when I called her this morning to check on your schedule.”
“Huh! That Melissa! How can she tell my mom everything!” Sora mumbled to herself and tries to come up with an excuse. “Don’t listen to what Melissa said. We didn’t sleep together.”
Her mother smiled mischievously. “Is that so? So where do you suppose you got that mark from?” Mrs. Kang commented as she took another sip of her tea.
“Mark? What mark?” asked Sora as she began to run her hands on her face and neck.
Her mother put down her cup of tea and replied, “The mark slightly between your lower jaw and upper throat area. Don’t tell me you got that from a mosquito bite when it clearly doesn’t look anything like it.”
Sora took out her pocket mirror from her handbag. Her mouth dropped open when she saw the mark her mother was talking about. She tries to recollect how the mark ended there. It was from last night when Park Jungsu continuously caressed her body and neck with his lips. She was enjoying every bit of it last night that she didn’t even pay attention to when he gave her that mark. Worse, she didn’t even notice it when she came out of the shower this morning.
“Park Jungsu! Wait until I get my hands on you! Aish! The mark is even darker than the one he gave me before!” she grumbled to herself as she continued to look into the mirror while rubbing the mark with her fingers.
“Well, I just want to know if I’ll be able to have grandchildren after you two get married. Speaking of which, have you met his mother yet? Omo, perhaps I should call Jungsu and arrange a meeting with his mother. Oh I’ve been waiting for this for a long time!” Mrs. Kang said excitingly as if the two were in the process of getting engaged.
“Eomma, aren’t you thinking a bit too far ahead? Besides, aren’t you forgetting something?” said Sora as she puts her pocket mirror away.
Mrs. Kang stopped and said, “Forgetting something…?” Her mother looked a bit oblivious for a moment.
Both looked at each other as Sora nudged her head and said, “…Appa doesn’t know that I’m in a relationship with Jungsu and I’ll be dead if he knew I was over a Jungsu’s place yesterday. Not to mention that he already has an eye on Minho-ssi for his son-in-law…”
“You’re right. Your father is one stubborn old man. But he is like this because he cares a lot for you and wants to ensure that you’re being well taken care of without getting hurt like last time,” Mrs. Kang explained.
Sora sighed and agreed with her mother that her father does care a lot for her. “I understand that, eomma. But it’s just that I’m not a little girl anymore and I should have the right to make my own decisions and choose whom I want to spend the rest of my life with.”
Mrs. Kang held Sora by the hand and comforted her, “Oh Sora-ah…I understand. But you know in your father’s eyes that you will always be his one and only child that he loves dearly. Well, don’t worry. Eomma will try to talk to your appa about it when I see him tonight, okay? Besides, I have my eyes set on Jungsu to be my son-in-law.”
Sora nodded with content and chuckle from her mother’s last statement as she held back a bit of her tears. “Gomawo, eomma,” she thanked her mother for the encouragement.
“Now hurry and let’s eat!”

After the meeting with Chairman Kang, Park Jungsu had a distressed look on his face as Victor drove him back to the office building.
He looked at Park Jungsu, who remained silent throughout the entire journey. “Better think things through carefully before they really start to get out of hand, President Park,” Victor said.
He didn’t spare Victor a glance as he held on tightly to the envelope Chairman Kang handed to him on the yacht.
Victor dropped Park Jungsu off at the visitor’s parking.
Before driving off, Victor turned down the passenger window and said, “What matters is not the pass, but now in the present time. As long as you are sincere and true in everything that you do, things may turn out not as bad as they may seem. Good day, President Park.”
Park Jungsu was left standing alone in the middle of the parking lot with the envelope in his hand as he watched Victor drive away.
As the sunlight beamed into the bedroom, it had woken Sora, as her eyes felt the brightness gleaming through her closed eyelids. She squinted as she opened her eyes, allowing a few seconds for them to adjust to the bright light.
